We are a security service that offers armed and unarmed security agents in Tennessee to help provide safety for varying events and organizations.

Unarmed Security Agents: What They Do and Why They Are Important

At Fortified Risk Group, we provide a holistic security approach that create personal, company or team-wide security.

For unarmed security agents, their job includes the following: monitoring surveillance videos/footage, investigating abnormal or suspicious activity, reporting crimes or situations to higher law authority officers as needed, monitoring people and events or locations, crime prevention.

These agents are responsible for the “flow” of an event, and how smoothly it progresses. If crime were compared to a wrinkle, these officers are responsible for the seamlessness of an event or happening. The risk is not as high as those that are armed and have the responsibilities thereupon, but these unarmed agents are just as vital for public safety as others are.

About Our Unarmed Agent Service

Our security services understand the risk that these communities, individuals, and organizations face on a daily basis and offer a solution that will provide safety. Fortified Risk Group was founded because of the recognition of the need for quality security services at a higher value with trusting relationships between clientele and team members. It was also realized after terrorist attacks and random acts of violence that there is a need for safety to be patrolled in a public setting.

The number of unarmed security agents has roughly doubled since 1980, to about 1.1 million, compared with about 833,000 police officers. The threat of terrorism after the 9/11 attacks raised awareness of the role security agents could play in intelligence sharing with law enforcement. (1) Not only has there been a raise in awareness, but a raise in the need as well, which is one of the many reasons why Fortified Risk Group wants to provide safety and assurance of security to each of their clients.

General Questions

  • What is an unarmed agent?

An unarmed agent is a security officer who has the responsibility to ensure safety and monitor crime for a group, business, individual, or occasion without holstering a fatal weapon. These agents often monitor crime and suspicious activity and are obligated to relay this information to a higher security officer to create a safe, secure environment for guests and individuals.

  • What kind of weapons do unarmed agents carry?

Unarmed security agents do not provide safety without any self-protection, so in many settings, they carry non-lethal weapons such as pepper spray and batons. In some situations they carry tasers, but it depends on their organization and expectations. The largest difference between an armed and unarmed agent is the allowance of a firearm.

  • Do security agents carry handcuffs and are they permitted to touch you?

The short answer to both questions is yes: handcuffs are one of the most needed pieces of equipment for any law enforcement officers in order to detain someone or restrict an individual to achieve a safer, calmer environment, and the same is true of whether or not these agents are allowed to touch you. If a security agent needs to restrict someone, perform a citizen's arrest, or remove an individual from a situation, they are permitted to use reasonable force.
